The end of the streak
The Summer Finale Stakes, the fourth race at Mountaineer today, did indeed have a sense of finality. My lucky horse, Lady Grace, the favorite, went off at 5-6, and ... ran third. Sigh.
I'll admit I wasn't thrilled with the her post position (8), and I suspected that Tempus Fugit, the eventual winner, would set a fast pace. And yes, the results from Equibase shows my concerns were well-founded.
The upside is, I suppose, that the next time she runs, her odds will be better than 5-6. But meanwhile, there's a chill in the air, leaves are falling from the trees, and picnics are pretty much over. It's the end of a beautiful summer -- and the end of a beautiful streak. Sigh.

Queen of the Quinellas, I have added T.L. to my blog roll. Thanks for stoppping by. I look forward to checking in on your literary escapades. I am currently in the middle of enjoying Bill Barich's "Laughing in the Hills". Pretty good book based around and about the life with the horses.
I've added you as well. I love the blog title.
You mean, people still bet Quinellas these days? :-)
Thanks, guys!
